Respect dare series – day 23 – Rest mate

Genesis 2:18-24

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.

So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Yesterday was about rest for me. Today, God reminded me that sometimes the best thing I can do for Glenn as his helpmate is to protect his rest for him.

As we’re in ministry, we try to take Monday’s off. It’s easy to start using it to catch up on administration work for our business or catch up with people. Now, we love seeing our friends, but as introverts I wouldn’t consider seeing people as ‘restful’. So I’m going to try and protect our Mondays and keep them for ourselves as much as possible.

My action for today: Make today a whole day of rest for us. Protect it. Don’t allow either of us to get tempted into completing administration tasks. Try to give Glenn as much ‘cave time’ as possible factoring in our little guy and the need for some family time.

My prayer for today:  Thank you that you have made me a help mate fit for Glenn and have made us one. Tune me into his needs as we are one. Help me to guard our rest day for him, and to give him plenty of alone time in it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
