A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
Words create atmosphere. Knowing this, we must ask: Are we encouragers, or disputers? Are we a team, or combatants? Do we build up, or break down? Are we wise with our words, or foolish? Are we hasty in speech, or slow and steady?
I’m trying to be slow in speech. I want to speak words of life and I know that this must start with heart change. I want to be a wife who speaks life, love, and encouragement over her husband. I desire to be one who builds up, rather than tears down. I want my words to be wise and kind.
My action for today: I’m praying for the heart change. Meanwhile I am trying to be intentional in steadying my flow so that I have time to think before I speak. I’m tired today and I’ve had to consciously acknowledge that and not allow it to become an excuse to enter battle mode with the tongue.
My prayer for today: Lord, work your character in me. Give me a new heart and renewed mind. Let my spirit be gentle and let the words that flow from it bring life, love, and truth to others. Let it start at home with gentleness, kindness, patience, and compassion in my words with Glenn. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
