Respect dare series – day 15 – Don’t quarrel

Proverbs 21:9

It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.

Proverbs 21:19

It is better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and fretful woman.

Proverbs 25:24

It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.

Proverbs 26:21

As charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.

Proverbs 27:15

A continual dripping on a rainy day and a quarrelsome wife are alike; . . .

The fact that Proverbs mentions quarrelsome wives 5 times tells me it might just be something we can struggle with as women! Even when I’m not trying to quarrel, it can sound like quarrelling. My sense of justice also leads me to argue when there really isn’t a need; I just want to prove my point to the opposite, but it doesn’t affect anything in our life.

I’m pleased to be able to say we didn’t quarrel today. We both mutually uplifted each other and encouraged each other throughout the day – and since it was a Sunday, we were together ALL day 😉 It’s days like these where I give myself a small pat on the back and thank God for the heart work He has done in me the past 14 days of this dare. I feel like I’m getting somewhere!

My action for today: Seems kind of self explanatory – don’t quarrel :p But I think rather than focusing on what NOT to do, I do much better when I focus on the things I want to bring into our relationship. I focus on speaking words of encouragement, and so forth.

My prayer for today:  I ask you, Lord, to make me an encourager not a quarreller. I ask that you will bind my tongue against any negativity. I pray for gentle, loving speech. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Cheer your spouse on
