What’s behind the door?

A short while ago our family lost a beloved member. She was a Christian and is now with our heavenly Father. Her life to the end was a testimony of the peace God gives to believers. She was strong, loving and courageous in sickness because she knew who held her in His hands.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (Isaiah 26:3)

Her husband shared at the funeral how when she received her diagnosis (and the prognosis) she had peace and joy. She told him that either way she won. If she lived, it meant more time with her precious family. If she died, it meant that she got to go to the Lord. She had the same peace as Apostle Paul, because she has the same Lord. Like him, she could declare in uncertain days:

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21)

When I read the little story below, I thought of her. She was not afraid to face death because she knew what was through the door.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO EXPLAIN DEATH..
By Barbara Sue
Monday, November 05, 2007

A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to
leave the examination room and said,
“Doctor, I am afraid to die.
Tell me what lies on the other side.”
Very quietly, the doctor said, “I don’t know.”
“You don’t know? You, a Christian man,
do not know what is on the other side?”

The doctor was holding the handle of the door;
on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining,
and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room
and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said,
“Did you notice my dog?
He’s never been in this room before.
He didn’t know what was inside.
He knew nothing except that his master was here,
and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.
I know little of what is on the other side of death,
but I do know one thing…

I know my Master is there and that is enough.”
