Shifting Focus

Mum and I watched “Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” a few nights back. The words of King Caspian at the end spoke to me: “I’ve spent too much time focusing on what has been taking away from me; I need to start focusing on what I have been given.”

I’m trying to keep focused on what I have gained. It is easy for me to long for the house, husband, family, car, financial security . . . But God is using me in a way that puts these things on hold. And it’s not just keeping an eternal focus that I’m talking about here, although that is part of it.

I’m talking of remembering the joy and the peace that comes from a relationship with Him. And that I can give my burdens to Him and find rest in His presence. I must continue to run into His arms.

John 14:26-27But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

As I heard the words of King Caspian, I prayed that God would take away my focus on what I have given up. I asked that He would keep my focus on Him and what I have received in Christ. I prayed that I would stay focused on the prize.

I pray that you, too, will remember the pearl of great price:

Mat 13:45-46 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
